General Info

What is paint ?
Pigment +Resin (Binder) +Additives + Solvents (Thinners)

Resins: - The heart of any paint system. They hold together the individual pigment particles and contribute most of the physical properties of the dried paint film. Ie, Hardness, Flexibility, Durability etc. Cohesion of coatings material. Adhesion to substrate.

Basic Resins for Paints & Coatings

  • Polyester (PE)
  • Epoxy Resin
  • Acrylic Resins
  • PVC Plastisol
  • Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF)
  • Polyamide Resins
  • Alkyd Resin
  • Silicone-modified Polyester (SMP)
  • Cross-linker resins
    • Amino resins
    • Polyurethane

Pigments:
Provide colour, opacity, and anti-corrosive properties. Colour & Hiding Power.
  • Color
  • Opacity
  • Gloss
  • UV Absorption / Protection
  • Hardness / Flexibility
  • Anti-Corrosion

Type of Pigments :
  • Titanium Dioxide Pigments
  • Colored Pigments
  • Inorganic
  • Organic
  • Pearlescent Pigments
  • Anti - Corrosive Pigments
PIGMENT CLASSIFICATION
  • Inorganic Pigment
    • Dull Color
    • Excellent UV resistance
    • Outstanding Chemical resistance
  • Organic Pigment
    • Bright Colors
    • High Tint Strength
    • Poor UV resistance
  • Aluminium & Pearlescent Pigments
    • Platelet-shape particles that reflect incoming Light
    • Aluminium Flake - Opaque
    • Mica particles
    • Translucent particles
    • Sparkling effect
  • Anti-Corrosive Pigments
    • Used in Primer coats
    • Create anti-corrosive effect
Solvents:

Main function is to mix all the ingredients. Help during the paint application stage. Help as the flow and general film properties if the dried coating. These lliquids dissolve resin without chemical reaction which is volatile during film formation.

  • Dissolve the binder in the paint
  • Have compatibility with binder
  • Maintain stability of paint
  • Prepare paint for application
  • Evaporate after drying
  • Assist in flow and leveling of paint
Additives :

They help to disperse pigments, Help for curing the coating and even remain in the dried film to provide extra durability. Improves the properties of the paint film. Used in very less quantity. Improves the desired properties and remove undesired properties.
